Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A cast-bronze ladle known in Latin as a simpulum (also simpuvium) with a shallow scoop beneath a slender handle. Atop the handle is a finial in the shape of a graceful ibex head with a tapered head, narrow eyes, and a grand pair of spiraling horns. A pair of petite flanges protrude upwards from the scoop rim so the ladle could be inverted to dry when not in use. Size: 2.6" W x 9.25" H (6.6 cm x 23.5 cm)
