Description:

Roman, 2nd century CE. A heavy cast bronze furniture attachment in the form of a naturalistic lion's head. A cuboid projection from the back of the head shows where it would have been attached. The ring through the nose is not original, but replicates what would have been put through the lion's nose when in use. These types of furniture ornaments give us an idea of what an elite Roman household would have looked like, with flourishes and personalized touches giving decoration to their lives. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.9" L x 1.2" W x 1" H (4.8 cm x 3 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Prominent LA County collector who acquired these prior to 2000
