Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A rare and fascinating bronze fragment of a statue's right shoulder featuring the cascading folds of a cape draped over a shoulder pad, suggestive of a military cloak atop armor. The right arm appears to extend outwards, perhaps to hold a weapon. As bronze statues were frequently melted down to make weapons throughout antiquity, the majority of surviving works are made from marble or stone - what little that is left of Classical bronze statuary is primarily found in museum collections. Hence, this bronze example is a unique opportunity for any collector! Size: 10" W x 12.5" H (25.4 cm x 31.8 cm)

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
