Rome, 1st Century BCE/CE. A beautiful example of the Roman Goddess Minerva (Greek Athena) wearing a Corinthian helmet with full plume, which takes a wide V form with incised detail. A pectoral featuring the head of Medusa is surrounded by a scale-like aegis. This piece was once mounted on a piece of furniture or a chariot, and as such there are remnants of the original iron nail in the back. 3-1/2"H.
