Description:

Roman Empire, ca 1st to 2nd century CE, from the eastern part of the empire, Turkey to Syria. Cast bronze fitting of Pan, probably used on a piece of furniture. Pan stands on one leg upon and integral fluid plinth, the other leg raised and on an extension of the plinth. Each arm is extended and hands once holding an object are shown grasping something. His legs are wonderfully incised ending in cloven hooves, face with the beard and horns of a goat with human torso. 5-5/8" H. Provenance: Ex-Private East Coast USA Collection acquired at auction.
