Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A Roman interpretation of the head of Medusa, that Gorgon monster, rendered as a bronze applique. Perhaps incorporated into military regalia, weaponry, or furniture. If enemies would dare to gaze into her eyes, perhaps they would turn to stone! Custom lucite stand. Nice patina. 1-3/4" D (4.5 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Palm Beach, FL collection, acquired between 1980 and 1990.
