Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A charming cast-bronze fibula with a crossbow-shaped body, T-shaped arms wrapped with bronze wire, and a slender pin with a curved fastener. The bulbous body resembles a resting bird, perhaps a dove, with incised striations on its back and tail that mimic feathers as well as a raised head with a perky beak. Nice patina has formed over the entire accessory in hues of green and brown. Size: 0.7" W x 1.375" H (1.8 cm x 3.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Dr. K. B. collection, Munich, Germany, acquired in the 1970s
