Description:

**Originally Listed At $350**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A charming cast bronze foot for a casket, cauldron, or small piece of furniture, in the form of a lion's head, body with protective concentric circle motifs on its chest, and double paws pressed together to form one wide base. The lion's face is fierce, with heavy whiskers, a blunt snout, and large ears and eyes. Decorative items like this one give us an idea of how everyday items in the Roman world would have looked - ornate and whimsical rather than utilitarian. Size: 1.3" W x 3.2" H (3.3 cm x 8.1 cm)
