Lot 31
Roman Empire, Eastern Mediterranean area, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. This is a small cast bronze bust with a high crested helmet depicting the goddess Minerva and an armless, footless (by design) lead doll in a long dress. Both display fine details and nice craftsmanship; the bust is probably a replica of a larger statue, and the doll may also have been but might have been a votive figure for offering in a temple. These would have belonged to individuals and they probably carried them on their person or displayed them in the home. Both come with custom stands. Size of largest: 2.1" H (5.3 cm).
Provenance: Ex-1960s West German collection of K.B.
