Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A beautiful cast-bronze decorative panel meant to adorn the breastplate of a meritorious Roman soldier. The hexagonal panel exhibits a slightly convex form with a pair of attachment nodules protruding from the verso. Centered on the obverse is a protruding female face with pouty lips, almond-shaped eyes beneath thin brows, circular earrings, and a bow tied beneath her chin. Her coiffure is neatly arranged with vertically cascading shocks of hair secured with intersecting straps beneath a thick upper bow. Smooth layers of brown and dark green patina have formed across this composition. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.75" W x 2.4" H (7 cm x 6.1 cm)
