Description:

**Originally Listed At $500**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pair of lions, cast in bronze, confronting one another, their bodies low in a crouch, their heads close together as they fight. Each has a massive head and a slender, athletic body with a long, curved tail. Romans were fans of exotic animals (just like us!) and they would have seen lions in traveling menageries or displays at local amphitheaters. Lions, symbols of power and wildness, were very popular subjects of Roman artwork. Size: 3.25" W x 0.85" H (8.3 cm x 2.2 cm); 2.45" H (6.2 cm) on included custom stand.
