Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A wonderfully expressive cast bronze applique depicting the head of a horse with a flowing mane and large eyes. Roman horses were highly valued, in addition to allowing the Roman Empire to spread far and wide across continental Europe. Roman horse breeding was a huge industry, based on African/Arabian breeds, and Roman legions included cavalry riding heavy horses capable of carrying the weight of weaponry and armor. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1" W x 1.1" H (2.5 cm x 2.8 cm); height on stand: 1.3" (3.3 cm)
