Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A charming spatula with its handle in the form of a standing nude male child; the integral spatula is below his feet and was probably used for applying cosmetics. The child is chubby and nude, with dimples at the knees and rolls at the waist and elbows. He holds a hand raised to his mouth and the other to his chest. He has a large head relative to his body, heightening his childlike appearance, and curly hair that peaks atop his head. The entire item is hand-carved from cow bone or that of another ungulate. Size: 0.6" W x 3.75" H (1.5 cm x 9.5 cm); 4.6" H (11.7 cm) on included custom stand.
