Roman Holy Land, Seleucis and Pieria, Antioch, Vespasian, ca. 69 to 79 CE. Dated 'New Holy Year' 2, i.e., 69-70 CE. Silver AR Tetradrachm. Greek inscription, laureate head right/Greek inscription, eagle standing left on club, with wings spread, holding wreath in beak, palm frond to left. Prieur 123; RPC II 1962. Size: 1.2" W (3 cm); 14.4 grams

Vespasian, founder of the Flavian Dynasty, was reputed for his successful military career, which spanned the Roman invasion of Britain in 43 CE and putting down the Jewish rebellion in Jerusalem of 66 CE. The last of the Four in the civil war Year of Four Emperors, Vespasian ruled for ten years, leaving behind new infrastructure as one of its longest lasting achievements - notably, the construction of the Colosseum.
