Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A stunning 23K gold ring with a thick band decorated with spiraling volutes and incised scrollwork. Atop the ring is a small ovoid bezel which houses an inlaid blue-glass cameo. Opaque white glass is applied atop the cameo and exhibits a stylized illustration of an empress. The regal woman is defined by a gently-sloping neck line, sensitive eyes, a petite nose, and thin lips, all beneath a plaited coiffure. An exquisite and wearable example of opulent Roman artistry! Size (ring): 1" W x 1.1" H (2.5 cm x 2.8 cm); size (cameo): 0.4" W x 0.625" H (1 cm x 1.6 cm); quality of gold: 23K (97%); total weight: 14.3 grams; US ring size 7.5.
