Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful pendant, comprised of roughly two dozen perforated stone seed beads bound together with thin gold wire, a pair of hammered 18 karat gold leaves, and a cylindrical 18 karat gold barrel with an arching bale loop. The pendant depicts a cluster of grapes hanging from the vine, an important symbol of Bacchus (Greek Dionysus/Dionysos), the god of wine, fertility, and agriculture. A charming example of wearable Roman artistry! Size: 0.5" W x 0.925" H (1.3 cm x 2.3 cm); quality of gold: 18K; total weight of pendant: 3.0 grams.
