Roman Empire, ca. 2nd century CE. Lovely high karat gold ring with thin tapered band, raised shoulders and rounded table set with circular carnelian intaglio decorated with an incised bull. The bull was often used in Roman religious ceremonies called a taurobolium, in which a bull was sacrificed for the well being of the people and the state. 4.6 grams and gold tests at 18K and approximately a US ring size 5. Size: .875" W x .625" H (2.2 cm x 1.6 cm)
