Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely red and burnt orange banded jasper intaglio with a finely carved depiction of a youthful woman's head in profile. She has an unlined face, a long neck, and curly hair seen peeking out from the front of a long head covering. A large, round earring is visible in her ear. The intaglio has been set in a modern 18K gold tapered setting and band. Size of intaglio: 0.7" H (1.8 cm); total weight: 9.6 grams

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private New York City, USA collection; ex-Madame Frances Artuner, Brussels, Belgium, 1960 to 1980s, brought to USA 1980s to 2000
