Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A striking ring with a substantial, wide 16K gold shank, set with a stone intaglio depicting a horse and rider, the rider holding a banner. The stone, possible jasper, presents beautiful red hues with black inclusions. Stylized rays emanate around the bezel surrounding the intaglio - as if to emphasize the might of the depicted horse and rider. US ring size 7.5; Size: intaglio measures .5" L x .375" W (1.3 cm x 1 cm); ring measures .75" in diameter (1.9 cm); Total Weight: 6.6 grams.
