Description:

Robert Blair (American, 1937-2016). "Another Man's Tracks" watercolor on board, 1984. Signed at lower right and again with date, title, and location on verso. An evocative painting by American artist Robert Blair featuring a snowy, winter scene of a lone hunter in the woods. Looking left, the figure stands near the center of the composition, his body bundled up in a heavy tunic, fringed pants, warm mittens, and a feathered hat as a white puff of icy breath emanates from his bearded mouth. A large rifle adorned with a fringed and beaded leather sheath balances in the crook of his left arm while his shoulder support a satchel and backpack. Spindly trees meander upward, towering above him and petite animal tracks swirl around; his own footprints disappearing into the midground behind him. Size of painting: 11.75" W x 15.75" H (29.8 cm x 40 cm); of frame: 19.5" W x 23.5" H (49.5 cm x 59.7 cm)

Robert H. Blair was born and raised in California. He first attended the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles from 1960 to 1962, while also working for the Los Angeles Examiner in the art department. This is where he began his professional art career in the commercial field.

After leaving the Los Angeles Examiner, Robert entered the Aerospace Industry through work in the art department at Aerojet-General Corporation. He attended the Art Center in Los Angeles from 1963 to 1966 where he developed his first work in the fine arts field. After moving to New Mexico in 1988, Robert taught oil painting classes at San Juan College in Farmington. He understands now what the early artists saw in New Mexico, with the blazing blue skies and magical light. His work is a reflection of the landscapes that surround him.

Robert’s art can be found in private and university collections all over the world.
