Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Central Highlands, Inca, ca. 15th to 16th century CE. A cast copper mace head with 6 thick spikes protruding from around the hafting hole, like a deadly star. This head could be attached to a wood shaft used to bludgeon one's adversaries or used as a decorative and ritualistic finial ornament to highlight the status of the owner. The material and condition suggest this head was a symbol of authority rather than used battle weapon. In addition, the star form attests to the ancients' reverence for the celestial realm. Size: 4.2" Diameter (10.7 cm); 6.2" H (15.7 cm) on included custom stand.
