Description:

Remojadas, Vera Cruz, Mexico. Ca. 600-900 CE. Large, natural buff, hollow terracotta head of a larger figure depicting a young, male warrior or a youth dressing up as a warrior. Note the traditional banded helmet and chin strap and pronounced round ear disc. Stylized coiffure is painted in black. This example is particularly attractive for the naturalistic facial features. How lifelike are his downcast eyes, soft brows, aquiline nose, and parted lips endearingly displaying his two front teeth! Rare example. Custom, museum-quality stand. 6 1/2"L x 6"W x 4"D Provenance: Ex Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL: acquired prior to 1970.
