Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful figural pottery rattle, depicting a standing female with hands to her protruding, perhaps pregnant, belly, a nicely defined visage with coffee bean eyes and a pronounced nose, and an enlarged pointy head or headdress that contains the rattles. A special example of Pre-Columbian material culture demonstrating that music as well as visual art was important to the ancients of the Americas. Custom stand.
