Description:

North America, Mexico, probably Chiapas state, Miocene or later, ca. 23 to 5 million years ago. A massive slab of amber, its form resembling the canopy of a broad tree when viewed flat, its surface pockmarked from the natural processes of the amber freezing in place over time. Air bubbles and the remains of an ancient termite colony are visible inside its translucent form. If you look closely at the amber, you can see the drama inherent in the lives of these ancient insects, trapped and preserved millions of years to be seen by us today. Amber is fossilized tree resin that often, as its semi-liquid form ran down the trunks of trees and pooled on the ground, preserved whatever it touched. Size: 18.45" W x 9" H (46.9 cm x 22.9 cm)
