Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Northern Highlands, Recuay culture, ca. 200 BCE to 600 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery jar bearing the grimacing face of an anthropomorphic figure with enormous earspools. The cream-hued vessel is decorated with black geometric and zoomorphic saurian motifs, and certain areas are accentuated with red pigment that stands out nicely. Size: 7.9" W x 9" H (20.1 cm x 22.9 cm); 10.7" H (27.2 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Minor nicks and abrasions, with fading to pigment commensurate with age, small chips, and light earthen deposits, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to painted decorations. Base of vessel is stuck atop display stand and was unable to be removed.
