Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Santa Valley, Recuay culture, Inca Period, ca. 1000 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery offering vessel (known as a paccha) with highly burnished, umber-hued surfaces decorated with a cream-ground band bearing elaborate motifs. Black and red pigment create the concentric squares, diamonds, birds, and flowers across the body in classic Inca form, and projecting from the shoulder is a stylized Recuay face donning a feline headdress. People in the Santa Valley of Peru paid homage nearly 1,000 years later to the earlier Recuay peoples (ca. 200 to 700 CE) by combining the ancient Recuay portraiture with Inca decorative style. Size: 7.5" L x 5.25" W x 5.75" H (19 cm x 13.3 cm x 14.6 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010; ex-Tim Misenhimer collection, Hollywood, California, USA
