Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Recuay culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-carved and string-cut greenstone scepter of a phallic form with a human visage incised on the upper end (head) comprised of almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, and slightly parted lips. White granite square stand. Size: piece itself measures 2.125" W at widest x 8.375" H (5.4 cm x 21.3 cm); 2.875" W x 8.875" H (7.3 cm x 22.5 cm) on stand

The Recuay was a highland culture of ancient Peru, but they had extensive contact with the Moche people on the coast. Like the Moche, the Recuay were clearly intrigued by erotic, in this case phallic, iconography.
