**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, 1st to 4th century CE. A terracotta hand, molded with the fingers fused together and palm slightly cupped. This is a finished piece and not part of a larger sculpture. The clay has a nice red color and carved indentations on the palm mimic the life lines. The hand was likely an offering at a shrine, perhaps to ask for healing of an ailment inflicting the hand. Size: 7.625" L x 3.5" W (19.4 cm x 8.9 cm)

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
