Description:

Raymond Preaux (French, 1916-1997). "Fusion" oil on canvas, n.d. Painting number 22 from Raymond Preaux's exhibition in St. Paul de Vence (as noted on label on verso). Signed at bottom, just right of center. A mesmerizing painting by French abstract painter Raymond Preux entitled "Fusion" - number 22 from his exhibition in St. Paul de Vence, a longstanding haven for artists, the most famous being Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall. The composition - rendered in a striking palette of vermilion, azure, navy blue, sienna, chocolate brown, slate grey, black, and white hues - is rather mysterious with most entities seemingly non-representational; however, a fish-like creature lies at the apex of the two orb-like forms. A fabulous work of modern art delineated with expressive brushwork and lively sgraffito by Raymond Preaux, set in a custom frame. Size (sight view): 20.875" L x 25" W (53 cm x 63.5 cm) Size (frame): 24.25" L x 28.25" W (61.6 cm x 71.8 cm)

Raymond Preaux was a student of the Free Academies of Montparnasse who exhibited at the Salon des Realites Nouvelles in Paris in 1949 and 1956.

On the verso of this painting is an exhibition label that reads, "exposition de Raymond Preaux a St. Paul de Vence Tableau No. 22 / fusion" (exhibition of Raymond Preaux in St. Paul de Vence Painting N. 22 - fusion).
