Description:

Northern Europe, Viking culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A pretty cast bronze ring with a long, straight key-form with one (formerly two) projecting teeth. This ring was probably made for a woman, as women in Viking culture were keepers of the household. Bronze keys, worn on a belt around the waist or as another form of ornamentation, were status symbols for them, and are frequently found in their graves. Size: 0.95" W x 1.1" H (2.4 cm x 2.8 cm)

  • Condition: Ring is bent and the bronze is a little fragile; this should not be worn. One tooth from the ring is an ancient loss. Pretty pale turquoise patina over most of the surface, with light surface encrustation.
