Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian culture, Earliest Horizon, ca. 2300 to 2000 BCE. A charming limestone sculptural amulet in the form of an owl's face made by Valdivian artisans using meticulous carving and string cut techniques. The piece is pierced laterally for suspension. Substantial original green pigment, though a bit faded, remains over much of this piece - a rare find! Size: 1.6" W x 2.1" H (4.1 cm x 5.3 cm)

These figures speak to the reverence that people of the ancient New World felt for owls - creatures symbolically linked to the spirit world and shamanistic practices.
