Description:

Ancient Near East/Asia Minor, Anatolia, modern day Turkey/Armenia, Caucasus region, Urartu culture, ca. 5th century BCE. A hand-built redware jug with a petite base, a spool-shaped body, a thick handle, and a trefoil spout atop the squat neck. Engraved atop the shoulder is a repeating register of elongated petals, perhaps representative of a flower. Size: 6.5" L x 6.5" W x 7.875" H (16.5 cm x 16.5 cm x 20 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.

  • Condition: Professional repair and restoration to body, base, and spout rim, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions, light fading to areas of original pigment, and softening to original motifs, otherwise in nice condition. Great preservation to overall form. TL drill holes beneath base and along underside of handle.
