Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumeria, ca. 2500 to 2200 BCE. A sweet ensemble of three delightful animal-shaped, stone amulets - two of a rich red color and one white, each one pierced for suspension. The white one appears to represent a bull, and the red ones, though more difficult to identify, probably represent horses. The Sumerians believed strongly in magic, and the magical powers of amulets, created to be deterrents against the Evil Eye. The oldest of these amulets are stone animal form ones like these. The bull was a symbol of fertility and virility, as were the ram, the sow, and the horse. Size: white bull measures 1" L x .375" H (2.5 cm x 1 cm)
