Description:

Pre-Columbian, Bolivia, Tiahuanaco (Tiwanaku), ca. 100 to 500 CE. A woven basketry tray with a slightly flared rim, made from coiled bundles of grasses with splints stitched on top, and dyed to created a stepped motif in the center. A red cotton or wool fiber is woven through the rim. Given its excellent condition, this basket was probably preserved for many centuries in a cave due to the arid climate. Size: 10.5" Diameter x 2" H (26.7 cm x 5.1 cm)
