Description:

Pre-Columbian, Tarascan State of Mexico, ca. 1000 to 1400 CE. At some point in the history of metal working, a Pre-Columbian craftsman took a copper axe or chisel and discovered if he bent the blade it became a lethal weapon. Such is the case with this very bizarre and rare implement. Made of solid copper with tapered handle - bent at the very tip probably for attachment to a wooden handle, blade curved and sharpened. The only example of this type of weapon/tool we have ever seen from the New World. Quite exceptional! Size: 7-3/8"L. Provenance: Ex P. Davis via descent, acquired between 1985 and 1995 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #109147
