Middle East, Southern Arabia / Yemen, ca. late 1st millennium BCE. A fascinating and rare object, a scaraboid seal with its back covered with extremely thin gold sheet panels (three remain) and its underside bearing two lines of incised Sabaean script. This written language was used by a variety of ancient Yemeni tribal groups, including the Himyarites, Hashidites, Sirwahites, Humlanites, Ghaymanites, and Radmanites. Size: 0.8" W x 0.4" H (2 cm x 1 cm)
