Western / Central Asia, Scythian, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A lengthy forged iron dagger with a wide and flat handle, a curved semicircular pommel, a wide guard, and a long, hammered iron blade which tapers to a point. The word 'akinakes' (or acinaces) refers to a particular style of short dagger used primarily in ancient western and central Asian cultures like Scythia and Persia. Finding an intact iron example like this one is quite rare! Size: 1.8" W x 17.3" H (4.6 cm x 43.9 cm)
