Description:

Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A fine, wheel-thrown pottery table amphora with a rounded base, a cylindrical body with a tapering shoulder, a squat rim meant to hold a lid, and a pair of applied loop handles. The shoulder is decorated with a series of incised concentric bands. Table amphorae were meant to hold wine, oil, or other regularly-used substances, and examples of this size are quite rare to find intact. Lucite display ring for photography purposes only. Size: 3.4" W x 7.2" H (8.6 cm x 18.3 cm).
