Description:

Roman, late Imperial period, ca. 350 to 450 CE. An incredibly rare rock crystal pendant in the form of a dolphin, drilled through at the base of the tail to create a perforation for suspension. The head is emphasized, with huge lips and eyes; the torso and fins are small, giving the dolphin a classically Roman appearance. A similar example was found in a cistern in Carthage (see below). This could easily be worn with an added chain. Size: 1.45" W x 0.75" H (3.7 cm x 1.9 cm)
