Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca, 3rd to 4th century CE. A very rare and fine carved crystal stamp seal in octagonal form tapering to small knobbed crown and drilled horizontally for suspension. As one can see, the suspension hole was drilled from each direction with a slight deviation near the center required to allow the holes to meet. Carved on the slightly curved table is a rather simplistic scene of Horus sitting upon the lap of Isis, palm tree to the right. Although Isis was never an official part of the Roman Pantheon of gods and goddesses she enjoyed high status and was worshipped by Romans who even had a cult of Isis. Size: .875" W x 1.625" H (2.2 cm x 4.1 cm)
