Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An adorable hand-blown glass vessel with a rounded base, a smooth pontil, and a pale-green coloration, all presented in an abstract avian form. The bulbous, teardrop-form body has a tapered feeding tip, a tall, tubular spout with a trefoil spout, and a pair of applied crimson-hued glass bulbs just below the rim which serve as the bird's "eyes." Liquid would have been poured into the body of the vessel and tipped forward to facilitate feeding an infant. Beautiful areas of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence complement the pale coloration of the vessel in hues of sapphire, citrine, emerald, amethyst, and ruby. Size: 3" H (7.6 cm).
