Caligula is famous for his abuse of power and general depravity, with ancient historians writing breathlessly horrified accounts of his behavior that have colored modern opinion of the man - but it seems clear that he combined a skill for theatrics and public speaking with a desire to be obeyed without question into a shockingly cruel reign.
