Rome, around 200 CE (late 2nd to early 3rd century CE). The body formed from two separate conical pieces. Turned ribs on the lid of the pyxis separate five circular paths with remains of enamel inlays. The second row with a band of blue four-leaf clovers on white ground; the fourth with a white and blue checker on red ground. Both between emerald green and deep blue bands. Just below the raised rim lip an indentation bearing a bronze band fixed at both ends with riveted loops that keep the arched strap handle. The handle with bent up fluted ends. One loop with a short chain anchoring a cast stopper in the shape of an angry looking theater mask. The bottom of the pyxis with concentric grooves. There are no traces that the conical halves of the makeup container were fixed to each other.
