Description:

Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. One of the strangest medical implements we have seen! Long bronze probe with hooked end used much like modern hooks to lift and hold tissue and for retraction of open wounds. But what sets this apart from all other examples we have seen is the human foot at the handle end. Was this used by a podiatrist? Someone who just loved the form of the human foot? One can only guess! Custom stand. Size: 8.25" L (21 cm)
