Northern Europe/Russia, Migration Period/Finno-Ugric/Proto-Viking, ca. 5th to 8th century CE. A gleaming, beautifully patinated cast bronze belt segment with an openwork motif of four circles set inside a thick rectangular border. On the back are two loops for attachment. This would have been just one link in a large, elaborate belt that broadcast the elite standing of its wearer. Size: 2.4" W x 2.05" H (6.1 cm x 5.2 cm)
