Nayarit, West Mexico, Chinesco style, ca. 300 - 200 BCE. This finely built plate / shallow bowl features a pair of stylized owl eyes in its center painted in dark brown slip on deep cream ground encircled by a wide rim adorned with a series of numerous dark brown, geometric wedges arranged rhythmically on a beautiful shade of red characteristic of the Chinesco style. 8-1/4"D. Provenance: Ex-Van Buskirk Collection, acquired at major New York auction.
