Description:

**First Time At Auction**

South America, North Coast Peru, Inca Culture, early Post Conquest Period, ca. 15th to 16th CE. A splendid bronze knife blade cast via the lost wax method with a slightly curved cutting edge and a man surmounted along the spine catching a fish. The metal content in this knife is primarily copper with other additions, such as zinc, which was only available to mix into bronze and brass alloys due to contact with the Spanish invaders. A similar blade is in Madrid's Museo de America (Museum of the Americas) collection, inventory number: 07144.
