Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec, ca. 1000 - 800 BCE. The remarkably fine carving of this bead is unparalleled. The piece assumes the form of a classic Olmec baby. The posture of the figure is quintessentially childlike with its clenched fists and crossed legs. All the signature Olmecoid facial features are exhibited here as well - the slanted, almost Asiatic eyes, full fleshy cheeks, and downturned jaguar mouth. The backside of the bead is stylistically carved as well. Beyond its iconography and carving technique, the beauty of the jadeite material is something to behold as well!  Size:  1-1/4"L x  1/2"W Provenance: Ex-private Santa Monica, CA Collection All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
