Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Native American, Southwestern United States, Dine (Navajo), ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A rare example of a handwoven twill saddle blanket or rug made with sheep wool with mesmerizing rows of alternating black and white bars, and a register of diamond / ovoid patterning that radiate outward. Twill weaving creates a reversible weave that is thick, durable, and ideal for utilitarian items such as saddle blankets. This weave type has become scarce in modern times for several reasons, such as modern fabrics replacing the need for such time-consuming handwoven textiles, and its complexity that only master weavers could execute. Size: 56.5" L x 28" W (143.5 cm x 71.1 cm)

Please note this item falls under the Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony Act and is not eligible for international shipping. Native American, Alaska Native, & Native Hawaiian objects are only eligible to ship within the United States.
