Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Dine (Navajo), ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A rare example of a handwoven twill saddle blanket made with sheep wool with a diamond pattern in black and white. Registers of red, gray, and cream border both sides of the main motif. Twill weaving creates a reversible weave that is thick, durable, and ideal for utilitarian items such as saddle blankets. This weave type has become scarce in modern times for a number of reasons, such as modern fabrics replacing the need for such time-consuming handwoven textiles, and its complexity that only master weavers could execute. Size: 52.5" L x 33" W (133.4 cm x 83.8 cm)

Please note this item may fall under the Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony Act and is not eligible for international shipping. Native American, Alaska Native, & Native Hawaiian objects are only eligible to ship within the United States.
